Over the past few years we have been sharing our predictions with our publishers, partners and stakeholders in VidAdNet.

This years report, although a few days late – due to the launch of Our FaceBook Video Advertsing Offering outlines where we are seeing budgets move, publishers target and users migrate to.

Our findings are just that, ours, and we will no doubt hit a few over the fences and strike out, but here goes…

Syndicated content will be big – there is a shortage of great video assets online and see have seen many of the bigger cable companies get on board with syndicating content into a made for web version.

Facebook and Twitter Pre roll – We have just launched a offering for FaceBook and working on a similar project for twitter.

Made for Ipad and tablet Video players, with deep advertising plays – we have seen hulu for Ipad and Australia’s IView products before, but are waiting for players that have pre roll baked in.

YouTube Channels being professionally represented – although this is nothing new, we see that we might start playing in this pond, with certain niches to compliment / supplement our advertising packages.

Made for Web – we have seen a bunch of pubs go down the path of getting and recycling content. However we have also seen a huge push for making more content to help build massive audiences online. This is often helped by PPC arbitrage.

TV channel apps, we have ZeeBox here in Australia and users can watch and re-watch content, however we have never really seen any pre roll. Time will tell.

There you have it, as you can see we have not gone top ten, rather than just whats working now and what we see has the best chance to grow in 2013.

We here at VidAdNet often get asked”what is your pre roll cpm?”, “What is your rate for Video pre roll?” or “Can you give us an idea of the rates you can pay us” or the most common one is…”What is your CPM Rate?

So we thought we should online what agencies and advertisers are looking for in your video assets to warrant the higher cpm’s available and also explore the things you can do on-site that make your site easier for us to sell. as an Advertising network we need to keep a blance of what our publishers nee and what the agency can offer our campaigns. I expect that its the same as Television advertising balancing between the TV networks and the show owners.

1. Make Great Videos or get Great Videos from your video source
This goes without saying Better Video means better pre roll cpm income. A better quality ORIGINAL video is always better than a video that has been posted a few times around online for years. Don’t fall into the trap of having a series of videos that are great then have second rate videos as you will lose traffic & valuable visitors to your site as well as not build a solid following for your video content. Your pre roll cpm income will be better if you consistently make a better video every few days rather than a daily second rate video.

2. Invest in a Professional Video Player
With the ability to embed and trans code on the go, a solid professional video player will help you keep all sorts of analytics, data and metrics of your video assets. Most of them come with a great deal of storage so they stream the content almost live and have the ability to embed your content on blogs, forums and other sites. The best we have found for adding pre roll ads into has been LongTail Video. We have even hosted our own videos online with LongTail Video and have added the OVA plug-in to make the task of pre rolling easy. Most Pre Roll Cpms are higher if the content is in a nice easy to view player.

3. Get Rid of the Crazy Banner Ads and Pop-ups
Unless you absolutely have to…get rid of the pop-ups and banners that flash and distract the viewers away from the video assets. The reason is this, we send each and evry site in our network to the agency or direct advertisers for review. They then give us an indication of how they might be able to sell the site and the cpm rate we could expect. More often than not if a site is full of banner ads that either flash or ‘talk’ we will get them rejected by way of them being totally unacceptable, as most people would understand.
The same goes for pop-ups, if you have to have a email opt-in that is a must on your site, make it in the sidebar or the contact us page. Not in a pop-up that comes over the top of the video pre roll!
Pre Roll Cpm

4. Work on your SEO
We have been a SEO advocate for Video assets since day one, some of our staff are talented SEO technicians, so it goes without saying that the income from having a site rank first in google, will affect the pre roll cpm income dramatically.
The reason is traffic and quality. If you have a motorsport website that has a great deal of video, ensure your seo is up to date and includes keywords or tags like “motorsport video”, “car video”, “how to race cars / drag race video” I am sure you get the idea here. That way if anyone is searching for that style of video, your assets will be found, the ads shown and income rolling in.
If your site is not ranking for terms like what the videos are about, how can you expect the pre roll cpm income to be high, as people watching your videos might not be interested in your content?

5. Keep videos in order and relevance.
Often an agency might go for a section or a series of views directly related to the content an advertiser wants to buy. The ideal situation would be like this. Agency wants to buy ad space on your fashion website for say a fashion show coming up on Television soon. They will buy all the months videos in the fashion category of your site. They will be premiering a show this week that is targeted at the fashion crowd…the same sort of viewer as would regularly visit your site. Therefore they are willing to buy the traffic at a higher pre roll cpm as their target audience is there, rather than going onto a site where they have fashion videos, but not in any order. That really is the key to Video Advertising.

So there is a few tips to organize your pre roll cpm optimized essentially to improve your changes of gaining higher incomes and getting pre sold every month moving forward. Your pre roll cpm is linked to quality and quality si what you ultimately are after when it comes to content. Don’t distract away from your original theme in order to just get pre roll income, rather adjust things slightly to increase your chances of a higher pre roll cpm.

Many Website Owners have Video Content. As Vidadnet often get inquiries on how to add video pre roll ads to websites individuals own. It is a really secure way to add some income from high quality videos or syndicated videos on your website.
Monetizing Video Content

There are a number of ways to do it, however we find that the best way is to use JW player or Flowplayer. We then will add a line of code known as a vast tag and then you edit this into your player.

Usually we need to review your sites video content for anything that potential advertisers would not agree to show their ads on, and then turn on the ads. We find that if your site is well trafficked or has a strong following of daily visitors, you will be rewarded with a steady income. The Sort of Video Content will need to be relevant and targeted towards the ideal audience. Don’t forget to make sure the Video Content is not in breach of any copyrights or trademarks stopping you syndicating or displaying the Video Content on your site.
Hints for Great Video Content

1/ Keep your video content new and updated
2/ Get a SEO plan on how to promote your site using back links and other on page tactics
3/ Make your video content relevant to what the visitors are looking for
4/ Try to get your own unique video content or get a feed from a unique source
5/ Have a plugin like video suggestion area so visitors see more than one video per visit
6/ Work with a network like Vidadnet to get the highest cpms available for your video content

In summary, try your best to get unique content for your videos as you will build a better reputation for advertisers and video content syndication networks
